Providing the ability to lift and move patients easier and safer
I have been a Firefighter/Paramedic for 36 years. My wife has been a Nurse for 12 years.
During our times of service, we have had to move more people than we can count. Many of these were able to assist by standing or walking on their own. The hardest were the ones unable to do those things. Patients on the floor or in a chair with altered mental status, having some form of injury, physically too weak, or in too much pain to move themselves.
Many times moving these patients required doing things that could cause harm to them. The most common techniques used are log rolling the patients to get a sheet or blanket under them or lifting them by their arms or chest. These techniques apply pressure to their shoulders, ribs, and joints.
These techniques also put responders in situations where they have no secure hand holds. This can put them at risk of losing their grip or injuring themselves due to poor positioning.
We designed the MRT to alleviate these issues, while facilitating the lifting and moving of patients in emergent and non-emergent situations.
